Round table on the sustainability of the Russian pollock took place in Boston
On the 15th of March, at the international fishery exibition (Seafood Expo North America) in Boston, a round table on sustainability of the Russian Far East whitefish fisheries, which was organized by environmental organization Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) was hosted.
The round table was attended by major international seafood processors (A. Espersen, The Fishing Co, Gorton's, High liner Foods, Delmar) and international environmental organizations (SFP, Fish Choice, Fish Wise, New England Aquarium).
At the round table, Pollock Catchers Association provided update on progress of sustainability development and improvement of the Russian pollock fisheries, including improvements completed in 2014 for the Sea of Okhotsk Pollock fishery within the requirements of the MSC certification, as well as the three-year sustainability development programme for Navarinsky pollock in the Bering Sea.
As a separate issue a traceability of Russian Pollock was discussed at the round table. Those Russian pollock catchers who belong to the PCA, ensure full transparency and legality of the fish products, which is confirmed by an independent international certification of the supply chain towards MSC Chain of Custody standard.
"Such round tables are important for buyers of Russian pollock and international environmental organizations to be at first-hand to get to know about considerable progress of the sustainability of the Russian pollock fisheries made by the PCA with a support from Federal Fisheries Agency and the Far East fisheries research institutions," - said the executive director of PCA Alexey Buglak.
